File and processing settings

Files are not uploaded to a server. Processing stays in this tab and never overwrites the original.

Choose a file or drop it onto this workspace.

One HEIC/HEIF, up to 25 MB and 24 million pixels. Only the primary image is converted from multi-image files.

Size and saved metadata

Transparency is flattened to white. EXIF, GPS and capture metadata are not copied. HDR appearance, depth maps and image sequences are not retained.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose one HEIC/HEIF photo.
  2. Choose JPEG quality and, optionally, a maximum long-edge size.
  3. Check the converted orientation, dimensions and actual byte size, then save the JPEG.

One proportional JPEG and its actual byte size

Smaller images are not enlarged. The quality setting is not a promised reduction percentage.

Re-encoding instead of renaming

Renaming .heic to .jpg does not create a JPEG. This tool decodes the primary image inside HEIF and re-encodes it as JPEG in the browser. The result is one primary image even when the source contains additional images or depth data; motion and image sequences are not retained.

The decoder is loaded separately only when conversion is requested. The photo is not uploaded to this site’s server. A replaceable open-source decoder file and license notice are supplied separately. Conversion runs in a worker and can be cancelled.

Check quality, color and metadata

JPEG is lossy. Lowering quality may reduce file size but also changes detail. HDR photos may look different in an ordinary JPEG, so compare the result with its source and keep the HEIC for printing or archival needs.

EXIF, GPS, capture dates and depth information are not copied. Transparent areas are composited over white. Limits are25 MB and24 million pixels; a large photo can still stop at the device-memory or decoder time limit.

Common questions

Is the original photo changed or removed?

No. The selected photo is read to create a separate JPEG result. The source file is not overwritten or automatically saved.

Are all images inside a multi-image HEIC converted?

Only its primary image is converted. Auxiliary images, depth maps, sequences and a Live Photo’s video are not included in the JPEG.
