Preserve personal-name syllables

Personal-name syllables are combined without internal sound-change assimilation. Family names accept one or two Hangul syllables and given names accept one to eight. This is not a romanizer for sentences or addresses.

Conventional candidates are not passport approval

Conventional candidates such as Kim and Lee can be compared with syllable references Gim and I. Not every customary spelling is listed, and no passport issuance or change decision is made. Check an established spelling and Ministry of Foreign Affairs guidance first.

Common questions

Is only one of Kim and Gim correct?

Customary personal-name spellings coexist. This display compares a surname candidate with its syllable reference without verifying a person’s legal Roman-alphabet name.
