- 3 graphemes · 10 code points
A joined family emoji contains several code points.
Processing rules and reading the result
Graphemes and words use Intl.Segmenter for the current language. The whitespace-free count removes Unicode whitespace from the code-point count. Empty input has zero lines; a trailing line break adds an empty line.
Limits and checks before use
Supports up to 500,000 UTF-16 code units. Live updates stop above 50,000; use the button for longer input. A destination may count UTF-16 units or bytes differently, so follow its own counter.
Common questions
Why do Korean and English have different byte counts?
UTF-8 usually uses one byte for ASCII and three for a precomposed Hangul syllable. Emoji and combining sequences have different lengths.
