How to use this tool
- Enter the original, search text and replacement.
- Choose all occurrences or the first, and case sensitivity.
- Check the replacement count and result before copying.
Replace punctuation literally
- Input and settings
- a.b a.b · find a.b → $1
- Result
- $1 $1
Here . and $1 are literal text, not regex syntax or a group reference.
Processing rules and reading the result
Regex metacharacters in the search are escaped, so dots, brackets and stars are literal. $& and $1 in the replacement are not expanded. Use the regex tool when capture groups are needed.
Limits and checks before use
Limits: 500,000 input characters, 10,000 search characters, 100,000 replacement characters, 20,000 replacements and 2 million output characters. Empty searches are disallowed; word boundaries are not inferred.
Common questions
Does an empty replacement delete matches?
Yes. Matched substrings are removed. Check the result and count before overwriting the original.
