Counting boundaries and time estimates
Language-aware word and sentence boundaries
Auto language first detects Hangul, Han, or kana and otherwise uses the page language. Supported browsers use Intl.Segmenter for word-like and sentence boundaries; line counting normalizes CRLF to one break. CJK text, mixed languages, and hyphenated words may differ from an editor or submission system, so compare a short sample first.
Reading and speaking times are estimates
Estimated time divides the counted words by the selected words per minute. Defaults are 300 for reading and 130 for speaking, adjustable from 50–2,000 and 50–500 respectively. Terminology, numbers, pauses, visual explanation, and audience fluency change real timing, so rehearse scripts aloud and check the destination's counting rules.
Frequently asked questions
How are words counted?
The browser uses word boundaries for the detected or selected language. It handles Hangul, Han, kana, and mixed text, but counting rules can differ by destination, so verify with a short sample.
How is the estimated reading time calculated?
It divides the word count by the selected words per minute. The default reading speed is 300 words per minute and can be adjusted for the text and audience.
Is my text saved?
No. All calculations happen inside your browser, and your text is never saved on or sent to a server.
