What is a public IP address
It's the address that identifies you on the internet. In a router (NAT) setup, several devices in a home share the same public IP.
Local (private) IP
The internal address assigned to your device inside the router (e.g. 192.168.0.10). It's detected via the browser's WebRTC feature, and may not show if the browser hides the value for security.
Reverse DNS hostname & location
Reverse DNS is the hostname tied to an IP (usually an ISP/server domain), and the location is an approximate value based on the ISP/data center, so it may differ from your real location.
IPv4 and IPv6
The badge next to the result shows the address format. Depending on your connection, it may show IPv4 (e.g. 203.0.113.5) or IPv6 (e.g. 2001:db8::1).
Privacy note
The IP shown is the value naturally passed when your browser connects to the server; it is not separately stored or shared. Local IP detection is handled entirely within your browser.
Practical example and verification criteria
My IP Address: First determine whether this page only calculates a format in the browser or the Tool Web server performs a DNS, port, or public-IP lookup. Do not mix a protocol or path into a hostname. Enter IP, MAC, and port values with the separators and ranges requested by the page, and confirm you are authorized to query the target.
My IP Address: For a quick check, start with 203.0.113.10 / 2001:db8::10 as a small input whose result relationship you can verify directly. Confirm that the input summary, units, and options match your intent before applying the tool to real values or a copy of the source; this reduces setup mistakes.
My IP Address: DNS caches, firewalls, NAT, proxies, and the lookup server's location can make results differ from observations on your device or another network. Recheck the same target with operating-system commands or an authorized management console. Location data is approximate, and a port response alone cannot establish that a service is secure.
