Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between KB and KiB?

KB is 1000 bytes (decimal) and KiB is 1024 bytes (binary). Storage devices usually use KB (1000), while operating systems usually use KiB (1024).

Why is the labeled capacity different from the actual capacity?

The difference arises because manufacturers label 1GB as 1 billion bytes (decimal), while operating systems calculate and display 1GiB as about 1.07 billion bytes (binary).

Are the entered values sent to a server?

No. All calculations happen only inside your browser, and the values are never sent to or stored on any server.
